Making Story Time an Epic Quest: Introducing Young Readers to TTPRG’s

by | Nov 5, 2025 | Uncategorized

At Livingrooms & Lizards, we don’t just read stories we turn storytime into an epic quest. Recently, we hosted a themed party for toddlers and preschoolers that combined fantasy, imagination, and a tiny bit of chaos (the good kind). Our stars of the show? Nobody Loves a Goblin and The Underwear Dragon. These books are packed with humor, heart, and just enough mischief to keep little adventurers on the edge of their seats.

Sir Hyde took things up a notch with voiceovers for the books, backed by original music produced by Blake Hobson. Imagine a goblin sneezing in perfect harmony or a dragon stomping to a beat. Storytime has never quite rocked like this.

While the story played, kids got their hands busy with a craft: crowns and stickers. Tiny hands became miniature royal decorators, creating their own crowns to wear while imagining themselves as heroes, goblins, or dragons in their own epic adventures.

Here’s where it gets really fun: the D20. That little 20-sided dice isn’t just for grown-up players—it’s a ticket to letting kids add to the story themselves. Roll low? Uh-oh…maybe the goblin trips over a dragon’s tail. Roll high? Whoa, the hero finds a secret treasure! Every roll sparks choices, imagination, and storytelling magic.

This isn’t just storytime—it’s a launchpad for creativity. Kids learn to make decisions, expand on stories, and play together in a world where dragons, crowns, and dice collide. It’s tactile, loud, messy, and pure fun.

If you want to see your little ones light up with imagination, give them a story, a craft, and a D20. Watch them roll, laugh, and become the tiny heroes of their own epic tales. Adventure awaits—and it starts right in your living room.

How to Host Your Own TTRPG Inspired Storytime

Pick Your Story
Choose a fantasy book that’s funny, colorful, and a little mischievous…think goblins, dragons. You can check out our team’s favorite books here.

Add Some Sound
Read aloud with flair, or level up some music if you want a mini performance. Make it loud, silly, and dramatic! Show the kids it’s ok to be expressive.

Craft Your Crown
Set up stickers, crayons, or paper crowns for the kids. Let them decorate while listening, turning them into tiny heroes or royalty. We used these crowns and the kids loved them.

Roll the Dice
Hand over a D20 and invite the kids to make choices: “Roll to see what the dragon does next!” Keep it simple and silly—every roll sparks imagination.

Expand the Story
Encourage embellishments: maybe the goblin ventures to a new city or maybe the dragon sneezes glitter whatever they imagine counts.

Celebrate the Adventure
Take a mini “adventurer’s bow” at the end, snap photos with their crowns, and cheer for their heroic storytelling skills.

Pro tip: Keep it short, loud, and fun. Kids have the attention span of a pixie on espresso so embrace chaos, giggles, and the unexpected!

And remember if you have any questions, are looking to collaborate, have us out at one of your events or just want more resources we are here for you! Oh! And if you enjoyed reading Where the Wild Things Are as a kid…your whole family will enjoy this very special reading by Sir Hyde.
